Clergy Abuse Task Force

On September 6, 2018, Attorney General Gurbir Grewal announced the formation of a criminal task force to investigate allegations of sexual abuse by members of the clergy within the Catholic dioceses of New Jersey.

Attorney General Grewal has also established a dedicated hotline to report allegations of abuse by members of the clergy. The hotline will be staffed by trained professionals and operate on a 24/7 basis. The toll-free number is: 855-363-6548. Alternatively, information can be submitted here. This hotline and online reporting form are for both historical and current allegations of abuse.

The task force will be staffed by detectives and prosecutors from the Division of Criminal Justice and County Prosecutors’ Offices from across the State. The task force is charged with investigating allegations of sexual abuse by clergy and undertaking a comprehensive review of the New Jersey Catholic dioceses’ compliance with a 2002 Memorandum of Understanding entered into with the Attorney General’s Office and various County Prosecutors’ Offices regarding policies and procedures for the dioceses to share information and cooperate regarding potential cases of sexual abuse.

This is an ongoing investigation.
