AG Platkin Issues Bias Incident Report for 2021 and 2022 and Releases 2023 Preliminary Bias Data
Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced the release of a report analyzing final bias incidents statistics in New Jersey in 2021 and 2022. Consistent with national trends, the report shows that incidents of bias and hate remain on the rise and 2022 had the highest number of reported bias incidents since the State began reporting bias incidents nearly three decades ago. Preliminary data for 2023 was also released today, indicating that the upward trend in reported bias incidents has continued – with an initial showing of a 22% increase in reported incidents in 2023 compared to 2022. Domestic Workers Will Soon Be Covered by the NJ Law Against Discrimination
As of July 2024, domestic workers will be protected from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation in employment under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination. Examples of domestic workers are housekeepers, in-home caretakers for children, in-home caretakers for elderly people, chefs, and butlers.
The New Jersey Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights Act also amends the definition of employer to include any person or entity that provides compensation for the performance of domestic services.

Required Posters
On August 1, 2022, DCR adopted new and amended regulations to increase the visibility and effectiveness of posters that the State requires employers, housing providers, and places of public accommodation to display to inform people of their rights under New Jersey’s Law Against Discrimination (LAD) and Family Leave Act (FLA). All covered businesses, employers, and housing providers are required by law to display the applicable posters.

Claiming our Seat at the Table: Women Organizers and Voting Right
April 3rd, 12:00 pm-1:30 pm
DCR will host a 3-part series highlighting the historical and ongoing challenges for historically excluded communities to access the right to vote and representation in government in preparation for upcoming primary and the general election in November. Historically, women have played a crucial visible as well as invisible role in social movements for equality such as the suffrage movement, civil rights movement, feminist movement, and many more. This webinar will highlight and uplift the role women play in activism, focusing on fighting for voting rights and representation in office. We will delve deeper into the historical and current obstacles that women have faced while trying to vote and participate in politics.
Program Objectives:
- An understanding of the important role women have played throughout the years in activism and advocacy space.
- An understanding of historical and present-day barriers to voting with a focus on the impact of women in the United States.
- The barriers women face running for elected positions.
- An understanding of voter protection initiatives under the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General and Division on Civil Rights.
