Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal Governor Philip D. Murphy announced his intention to nominate Gurbir S. Grewal to serve as New Jersey’s 61st Attorney General on December 12, 2017. He was confirmed by the New Jersey Senate and assumed the office on January 16, 2018. Since assuming office, Attorney General Grewal has focused his attention on protecting the interests of New Jersey residents by expanding affirmative litigation, strengthening police-community relations, reducing violent crime and fighting the opioid epidemic. Before becoming New Jersey Attorney General, Grewal served as Bergen County Prosecutor, the chief law enforcement officer of the most populous county in New Jersey and home to nearly 1 million residents living in 70 municipalities. As Bergen County Prosecutor, Grewal supervised a staff of 265 personnel and had supervisory authority over approximately 2,700 sworn law enforcement officers across 74 law enforcement agencies. Among other accomplishments during his tenure, he developed and implemented several creative approaches designed to tackle the heroin and opioid crisis, including “Operation Helping Hand,” a program that offers low-level drug offenders treatment options upon arrest. He also established a Community Affairs Unit, which is dedicated to assisting local departments improve police/community relations.

Kirsten Kreuger Counsel to the Attorney General Kirstin Krueger is a Deputy Attorney General, with the title of Counsel to the Attorney General. Prior to joining OAG, she served as an Assistant District Attorney in New York City, in the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor and the Richmond County District Attorney's Office. She graduated from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts and Brooklyn Law School.

Kirstin Krueger – Counsel to the Attorney General

Lisa Brown Special Assistant to the Attorney General Lisa N. Brown is Counsel of the Attorney General and is a member of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. DAG Brown began her her legal career working as a Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Newark. In 2005, she joined the Deputy as a Deputy Attorney in the Division of Law, assigned to the DCPP section. DAG Brown has also supported the Professional Boards Prosecution and Civil Rights sections before joining the Office of the Attorney General. DAG Brown graduated from Montclair State University and earned her law degree from Rutgers School of Law-Newark where she was a member of the Minority Student Program.

Christina Broderick Counsel to the Attorney General Christina Broderick is Counsel to the Attorney General. Before joining the Office of the Attorney General, Christina was a litigation associate at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. She graduated from Northwestern University and Columbia Law School.

Melanie Armstrong Senior Counsel to the Attorney General Melanie Armstrong is an Assistant Attorney General, with the title of Senior Counsel to the Attorney General. She previously served as the Director of the Division of Civil Rights for the New Jersey Department of Transportation and the Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Public Contract Assistance for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Earlier in her career, she served as a Deputy Attorney General in the Division of Law’s Correction and State Police Section and as Special Assistant to the Director of the Law Enforcement component of Governor Corzine’s Safe Streets, Safe Neighborhoods Strategy. She graduated from the College of New Jersey and Villanova University School of Law.

Melanie Armstrong – Senior Counsel to the Attorney General

Matthew Berns Senior Counsel to the Attorney General Matthew Berns is an Assistant Attorney General, with the title of Senior Counsel to the Attorney General. In that role, Matt helps coordinate the Department’s affirmative civil enforcement and policy initiatives, and provides oversight for the Division on Civil Rights, the Division of Consumer Protection, and the Office of the New Jersey Coordinator for Addiction Responses and Enforcement Strategies (NJ CARES). Before joining the Office of the Attorney General, he spent three years at the U.S. Department of Justice, where he served as a Trial Attorney in the Federal Programs Branch of the Civil Division. Matt previously worked as an associate at Covington & Burling in Washington and clerked for Judge Thomas Griffith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Georgetown University Law Center, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Georgetown Law Journal.
