Hackettstown Man Sentenced for Knowingly Possessing $80,000 Stolen Automobile

TRENTON – Acting Attorney General Paula T. Dow and Criminal Justice Director Stephen J. Taylor announced that a Passaic County man has been sentenced for knowingly possessing a stolen vehicle.

According to Acting Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Riza Dagli, Louis R. Perez, 36, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Marilyn C. Clark in Passaic County to three years in state prison, which is to run concurrent to the sentence he is serving on unrelated charges. The sentence was based on Perez guilty plea to receiving stolen property, a charge contained in a June 16, 2009 Passaic County grand jury indictment.

In pleading guilty on Dec. 22, Perez admitted that on Sept. 21, 2006, he was in possession of a stolen 2006 Land Rover Range Rover, which was valued at more than $80,000 and that he had a reasonable belief that it was stolen.

Detective Nicholas Olenick, Detective Scott Caponi and Deputy Attorney General Dennis Kwasnik was assigned to the investigation. Kwasnik represented the Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor at the sentencing.
