State Grand Jury Declines to Criminally Charge Officers Involved in Fatal Shooting in Fort Lee, N.J., on February 4, 2023

A state grand jury has voted not to file any criminal charges at the conclusion of its deliberations on June 17, 2024 regarding the death of Mohamed Bounaouar, 42, of Las Vegas, Nevada, who was fatally shot in Fort Lee, New Jersey, after an encounter with members of the Fort Lee Police Department on February 4, 2023.

Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced today that he has issued a Directive to law enforcement executives and county prosecutors establishing new limits on attempts to obtain newborn “bloodspot” information in connection with criminal investigations.

Attorney General’s Office Investigating Fatal Crash in Southampton, N.J., Involving On-Duty New Jersey State Trooper

The Attorney General’s Office is investigating a fatal crash involving a New Jersey State Police (NJSP) vehicle that occurred Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in Southampton Township in Burlington County, New Jersey. One adult male civilian sustained fatal injuries. His identity is not being released at this time.
