Division on Civil Rights

NJ Division on Civil RightsThe Division on Civil Rights (DCR) is responsible for enforcing the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD), which makes it illegal to discriminate in employment, contracting, housing, and places of public accommodation. It also enforces the Family Leave Act (FLA), which requires covered employers to grant time off from work to employees to care for or bond with a child within 1 year of the child’s birth or adoption or to care for a family member with a serious health condition. DCR also provides training to the general public, government agencies, volunteer organizations, and the business community to promote awareness of LAD and FLA, to decrease prejudice and bias, and to educate members of the public about available resources if they believe their rights have been violated.
