Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and the Division on Civil Rights (DCR) announced that DCR has issued Findings of Probable Cause in 10 cases alleging that landlords and real estate agents violated the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD) by denying housing to individuals who stated that they wished to pay their rent using Section 8 vouchers, a form of government rental assistance. DCR Notices
Domestic Workers Will Soon Be Covered by the NJ Law Against Discrimination
As of July 2024, domestic workers will be protected from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation in employment under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination. Examples of domestic workers are housekeepers, in-home caretakers for children, in-home caretakers for elderly people, chefs, and butlers.
The New Jersey Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights Act also amends the definition of employer to include any person or entity that provides compensation for the performance of domestic services.

Required Posters
On August 1, 2022, DCR adopted new and amended regulations to increase the visibility and effectiveness of posters that the State requires employers, housing providers, and places of public accommodation to display to inform people of their rights under New Jersey’s Law Against Discrimination (LAD) and Family Leave Act (FLA). All covered businesses, employers, and housing providers are required by law to display the applicable posters.

Black Men’s Mental Health – I Am My Brother’s Keeper
Join the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights (“DCR”) for a panel discussion about the impact and presence of mental health among Black men. The expert panelists will offer their guidance on the impact of untreated mental illness in the Black community, the importance of advocating for proper treatment, and the value of seeking help for mental health problems. Attendees will also learn about their rights under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD) and how to report discrimination and bias-based harassment in medical settings through DCR.

The Impact of Appraisal Discrimination on New Jersey’s Communities of Color
Join New Jersey fair housing and industry experts for a discussion on systemic racial inequities in appraisal practices. Racial disparities in residential property appraisals, along with other discriminatory housing practices, contribute to the racial wealth gap, to segregated neighborhoods, and to inequality in homeownership rates.
